Motsamai’s contract was terminated on Monday after “serious” considerations by the BOPEU board before his 10 days suspension could come to an end, Mmegi has learnt. “Motsamai got his letter on Monday. I cannot share many details because the issue is between the employer and the employee. It is true BOPEU will conduct a forensic audit which we do every year.

The audit is the one which could give us a clear picture of what is happening at BOPEU. I do not want to accuse anyone when an audit has not been done,” Mogwera said.

Motsamai was on a five-year contract with the Babereki Investment and he is alleged to have been getting around P60,000 per month with other associated perks. He is likely to be paid close to P4 million as his exit package, sources close to him have alleged.

He started work at the BOPEU investment arm in February 2017. He was allegedly fired over millions of pula that  down the drain via multi-million pula investments at Future Sustain International and Fly Mission Services. He was also accused of channelling undisclosed funds into the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC).

In an interview last week, Motsamai denied misuse of funds charges at Babereki Investments. At the time of going to press, Motsamai had not reverted to Mmegi as he had promised when contacted earlier.
