According to Serowe police station commander, Superintendent Ntatiwa they received a call from a Grembo’s security guard in the wee hours of Saturday that Orange shop was broken into. He said that suspicions are that a capstone was used to break the big front window of the store and thereafter the culprits used the hole that was created to enter the store.

“The incident happened around 2am and only display cellphones were stolen during the incident. Unfortunately, we have not yet arrested anyone in connection to the matter,” said Ntatiwa.

The police boss further revealed that break-ins are now common in his policing area. Just last week Thursday, Ntatiwa said they recorded other three incidents in which schools were broken into and money stolen. He said in all incidents, the perpetrators broke into headmasters’ offices.

He said at Moiyabana Junior Secondary School cash amounting to P5,400 and a laptop were stolen while at Motshegaletau thieves stole a laptop and later helped themselves to cash amounting to P2,700 at Mogorosi Primary School. “It is worrisome because the culprits are now targeting schools because they know that prize-giving ceremonies are approaching, hence funds are being raised and kept in schools,” he said. Ntatiwa said no arrests have been made in connection with the break-ins. He pleaded with teachers to avoid keeping money at schools as thieves are taking advantage of that and also urged schools to hire security companies.

He said they had been informed that in all schools that were broken into, there were no security guards, as contracts with security companies had not been not renewed.

In another incident, Ntatiwa said they are investigating a case in which two men were shot on their legs while they were trying to steal alcohol beverages from Chichana Bar in Serowe over the weekend.

Ntatiwa said that they received a tipoff that the bar was broken into around 1am on Saturday and upon arrival the police found three men, two inside and one outside receiving beers from the bar. He said the men then ran away when they saw the police and the other two were shot while trying to attack the police officers.
