Disgruntled BMC members ready to approach gov�t

The long running impasse between the company, Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) and some members of the football club appear to be far from over, years after it started.
The bone of contention has been how the status of the club was acquired by the previous owners, Ghodrati family.
The club, now operating as Gilport Lions was later acquired by new owners led by Kelesitse Gilika.
Speaking to Mmegi Sport yesterday, former BMC chairperson, Sonny Phiri, who is amongst those seeking to take back the club, said they will not rest until things are done properly. He said they will exhaust all the options in order to see to it that the club returns to its original status.
He said they will approach the relevant ministries including those that deal with the registration of societies and the ones that the BMC falls under.
“We are just waiting for a response from the BFA (Botswana Football Association) after which we will then take the matter forward if we still feel aggrieved,” he said.
He said in their latest correspondence to the association, which was sent a week ago, they have maintained their stance that the club belongs to the society and BMC as a company had no right to give it away without the involvement of the society.
“In the previous engagements with the BFA, they had indicated that the company, BMC had informed them that the club belonged to the company and therefore had the powers to give it to a third party.
However, we insist that the club was formed not only by BMC employees but also by other people from the community in Lobatse,” he said.
