According to Masa Square Hotel sales and marketing manager Neo Nkele, as part of their fashion show campaign, they have also hosted a series of business seminars, namely the Masa Square Hotel Fashion Mentorship Talk Shop Series. This year the fashion show will be held under the theme: ‘Working Together to Build Botswana’s Creative Industry.’

“Through these talk shops we have invited renowned local, and international business leaders and entrepreneurs from different industries. We have included captains in the finance, telecommunications and entertainment industries in order for them to discuss their experiences and success stories in their respective fields,” she said. Nkele said two talk shops have been successfully rolled out thus far.

The final installment is slated for October 2017 and will culminate in the monumental Masa Fashion Show. Through the workshops, the organisers aim to inspire local youth, including the mentees to turn their talents into sustainable businesses.

Earlier this year they launched the mentorship programme, which saw 12 budding fashion designers mentored by 12 seasoned designers.

The seasoned designers includes Lame Chilume of Switch Couture BW, Mummy Molapo of Fetish Culture, Tlamo Mosinyi of Bondphill, Kaone Moremong of House of Kay, Lesedi Matlapeng of Kefseddy Designs, Natasha Selelo of Tasha Creationz, Dikatso Motlapele & Anita Molosiwa of Eccentric Style Loft, Candida & Wedu Montsho of DihDah, Thabiso Dibeela of Thabie D Originals, Tankiso Mathware of Priestly, Botho Chalebgwa of Botocy, Delayna and Scott of Delayna Scott designs.

“As part of the fashion show campaign we have been underway with a Fashion Mentorship Programme, which was conceptualised to provide a platform for up coming members of the Botswana fashion industry,” she said.

According to Nkele, the mentees have been working hard designing their exclusive collections which will be debuted on the runway at this year’s Masa Fashion Show.

She said this comes following four consecutive years of the Masa Fashion Show held to great acclaim, and with an increasingly strong attendance and revere from Batswana.

The mentees chosen to participate in the inaugural MSH Fashion Mentorship Programme  includes Boikanyo Molale, Thabiso Makwate, Katlego Moatshe, Pamela Ntshwarang, Lerang Keabile, Gomotsegang Dipuo, Tshepiso Abdulla, Ratanang Morontshe, Seatla Khutlo, Katlego Sengate, Temo Mpudi and Mpho Chepete.
