BFA engages German to audit local football

The German began work at the BFA this week, and will assess all facets of the game and recommend the best way forward.
The German FA will meet the costs while the BFA covers local travel and accommodation expenses.
BFA president, Maclean Letshwiti opted for an audit of the local game, and decided to engage a German, known for their precision and good football development.
“He is doing a situational analysis on the state of football in Botswana.
He is here for two months to do the study. After the study, they will determine what kind of resource we need for the next two to four years. We do not have the expertise and know-how,” Letshwiti said.
He said they engaged a German expert due to their record in the development of football.
“In my opinion, there is no better country in youth development than Germany. They have also assisted other countries like Honduras, India and Costa Rica with good results. That’s my opinion, anyone can go to England, US or wherever, but I believe the Germans are good with football development,” he said. The German started work at Lekidi Centre on Tuesday and his stay in Botswana will last until early December. Meanwhile, Letshwiti said he was not concerned with the performance of the Zebras, which has plummeted in the FIFA rankings. “It’s only a naive person who will say the Zebras are not performing. Without a robust youth development programme to feed the national team, there is no successful team.
What has the national team achieved in the last 50 years, it has always been mediocre performance. I am worried, but I am doing something about it. Development is long term. For 50 years, we have been doing things the wrong way,” he said.
