BDP youth fire chairperson in revenge

“I do not recognise that expulsion from those members. NYEC was supposed to be in Tshimoyapula campaigning for the bye-election as per our agreement with party central committee. So, some preferred to remain in Gaborone to plan that meeting. I will be waiting for the formal letter from that said meeting and I will respond to it and take it to the central committee (of the motherbody),” Mavhange told Mmegi yesterday.
Youth league committee members met on Sunday, where they resolved to remove their chairperson. Correspondence from the information officer, Bonang Morapedi stated that this decision was made after it was discovered that Mahvange issued untruthful statements to the central committee of the mother body and party president, Ian Khama.
The statement says Mahvange, whose other surname is Moabi, told the central committee and party president that the political officer, Kabo Ketshogile made NYEC ungovernable by disrupting its meetings.
“He also cited that Ketshogile made unpleasant remarks to the president of the party at the Travel Lodge national council. The statement led to Ketshogile’s suspension. The disciplinary committee highlighted that the matter should never have happened such that Ketshogile should never have been suspended and Moabi should be cautious in his decisions,” the statement says.
The committee also accused Mavhange of having chaired an unconstitutional NYEC meeting and the decisions of the said meeting were implemented even though the meeting could not form a quorum. The members took a resolution to reinstate Bruce Nkgakile to his position as a treasurer after Mahvange and some NYEC members decided to kick him from the position.
NYEC secretary, Thabo Autlwetse said their meeting was legal and they followed proper procedure to fire the chairperson.
