GABCON Honours Loyal Customers

Presenting the citations at a breakfast engagement session held at the Avani Resort and Casino, Gabcon managing director, Lesedi Moakofi said they recognise the top customers in view of the volumes and their commitment to GABCON for the last financial year. She said the purpose of the event was to officially acknowledge the customers’ concerns and discuss about ways that the customers can be served better.
“We also want to educate you on GABCON services that you may not have experienced and to share the highlights of the road to rail strategy,” said Moakofi.
She also thanked customers for the support they have afforded the company over the years, stating that they have given the company business that has sustained it since 1995. Being the first and only container terminal in the country, she acknowledged that it does not make them immune to competition. “Although we have given exceptional service over the years, we have also encountered service challenges that may have lost us some of you but we trust our responsiveness has retained you,” said Moakofi. According to her, the company is currently mainly serving the commercial market, adding that it also services individual customers directly and through their agents.
She encouraged people to use GABCON, noting that it is very cheap over long distance as compared to road.
“We are the only ones with best container handling equipment in the country as we can handle the three-metre, six-metre and 12-metre containers, from the train into the trucks for easy and fast terminal to door delivery service,” she said. Moakofi further said GABCON facility allows containers to be manifested directly from point of origin to GABCON through a bill of lading.
She also emphasised the high safety of containers on transit, stating that there is less risk of hijackings and theft. “GABCON has the capability to store up to 1800 teus.
We have the most advanced container side lifting equipment in the country for transport and placing a container on the ground for easy loading or offloading,” she said.
GABCON products and services include deliveries of containers from the terminal to the customer’s premises, handling of containers, storage of containers free for the first five days, equipment hire, moving of containers by rail, placing containers on the ground at customer’s premises, and sale of second hand containers.
