Five students who are Associate Degree and Degree certificate holders could not believe their ears when they were told that the university’s founder and president, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Lim Kok Wing gave them a full sponsorship to further their studies.

The students who had just completed their associate degree would be sponsored by the university for their degree courses in Gaborone campus while those who completed and passed their Bachelors degree were given a full masters scholarship which included flight tickets, accommodation, food and other necessities.

When addressing the graduates, professor Limkokwing told them that as they move on, they must remember the people who lifted them up along the way and walked right next to them whenever they needed someone by their side. He urged them to always remember unwavering love and unquestioning support of their parents.

“You may never know how much they sacrificed just so you may succeed. You may never know how far they will go just to keep you close. But you know they have been with you every step of the way through the tears of pain and the tears of joy that have moulded you into the person you are today,” he said.

He also pointed out that 10 years ago, they planted their flag on the African continent in Gaborone where they created the first Limkokwing campus in Africa. He added that in May 2007 when they opened enrollment, 6,000 young Batswana showed up for the 1,000 places they had where five years later they had some 10,000 students on their campus.

Limkokwing said the campus remained at the forefront in applied creativity and digital technology and remained their regional hub. He added that it had attracted students from more than 30 countries.

For his part, the Vice President of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi congratulated the 934 graduates for having finished what they started from different programmes at different levels offered by the university.

“You now join the many Limkokwing alumni who are making an impact in more than 150 countries across the world.

Those graduates, like you, are industry ready upon completion of their studies and already many are assuming leadership roles within their respective industries which in itself is an eloquent tribute to the quality of the Limkokwing learning experience,” he said.

He told the graduates that they were among the best trained and most talented in the world today and therefore urged them to go out there to achieve the best they could for themselves, families and the economy.

The university’s alumni Malcom Makhura, who is also an entrepreneur, emphasised his delight on how the university had evolved as the best and the country’s only university of transformation in the past seven years since their graduation.

“Seven years ago, Limkokwing has not only equipped me with the necessary business acumen but it has also increased my personal capacity, it has boosted my confidence and morale. I have not only excelled in my line of career but in other areas of life as well, I have a few awards under my name as a retail professional,” he said.

According to one of the graduates, Mohlomi Tlali, Associate Degree in Journalism and Media graduate of class of 2017, Limkokwing University had provided a platform where freedom of mind was more than just a norm but a culture. Tlali, who is also visually impaired, said despite his disability, he learnt to read Braille and be at par with other bodied students.
