According to Nkawana, he considered to be creative with advertising, hence the reason for his concept noting that he wanted to tap into a market that was not really exploited.

“Unlike my other colleagues, I didn’t wait to get a white collar job and decided to come up with a business to help sustain myself while employing other people,” he said.

Nkawana said that last year, he introduced his company where they started using bicycles to move around and advertise for companies. He said different companies like About Beds, Wealth Point and Attractive Mirage were their first clients. “I was happy with the reception that I got because at times it takes a while for people to realise the impact that one is doing.

Having only these clients did motivate me, unlike most people who wouldn’t because it showed that such companies believe in me and my concept,” he said.

Nkawana also noted that one of the reasons he decided to introduce a concept he dubbed ‘advertising birds’ is because their aim is to grab the attention of the consumers.

Through this concept, he said, his team would walk around the city on a daily basis advertising company brands. “Currently, we have Gaborone Universal College (GUC) as our first client,” Nkawana said.

Nkawana and his partner Botsogo Kgomo, employ five people who do advertising through bicycles and ‘advertising birds’.  Further, he said they have plans to penetrate the market as they are currently working on other initiatives that would suit the market and help attract more customers.

“I urge the youth to come out of their comfort zones, explore their dreams and talents and stop focusing on white collar jobs,” he said.

He said currently the company, has five bicycles and usually do advertising according to the client’s requirements when it comes to time and location.

In addition, he said they walk around the city during peak hours and stop by the robots as well.

“When we walk around, we often get negative comments from people, especially the youth. But we choose to focus on the positive feedback that we get to become what we are,” said Nkawana.
