Hotheaded BDP trio explores reconciliation

The court heard on Monday that the trio, Chidzani Mokgwebe, Boago Mosarwane and Otsile Moses, would like to lay the matter to rest.  They are accused of assaulting Otto Masogo by slapping him in the face and bashing him with chairs and desks at Donga Community Junior School on March 11, 2017.

Directorate of Public Prosecutions’ (DPP) Archie Makgoa told magistrate Lebogang Kebeetsweng that the state was not opposed to reconciliation overtures that the accused are currently exploring in order to bring the matter to finality.

Makgoa prayed with the court to adjourn the matter to November 13 for another status hearing. The accused’s attorney Keitshegile Sechele concurred with Makgoa.

The ugly factional fights that happened prior to the BDP’s 37th Elective Congress that was held in Tonota in July ignited the events that led to the case.

The intra-party fight was allegedly instigated by differences over the handling of the Francistown Regional Elective Congress.

Before the BDP congress, Masogo was a well-known sympathiser of Vice President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s faction while the accused - just like their political grandmaster Ignatius Moswaane - were on the side of the vanquished Nonofho Molefhi’s camp.

Masogo recently told Mmegi that he had heard rumours to the effect that the accused trio wants to reconcile with him, but they were yet to approach him about the issue.

Asked if he would forgive the accused since the matter is also bringing the name of the BDP into disrepute, Masogo responded ambiguously.

He said: “For now I cannot forgive them because they have not approached me.  I cannot talk about forgiveness if no one has approached me. The accused have no right to talk to me, but I may consider going that route if they send a genuine emissary to me in a bid to solve the matter out of court.  I am a human being. The accused should also show that they are very sorry for their actions and are not playing to the gallery before I consider to forgive them or not.”
