Mystery as mirror �kills� woman

Police are hoping a post-mortem will shed more light into the death of the woman, who originated from Tonota.

Witnesses to the incident say a pastor from a church in Mmopane instructed the deceased to pray at midnight while looking into the mirror he provided. The woman, witnesses say, passed away while praying with the mirror. Police investigating the incident are reluctant to lend weight to the witnesses’ statements, however. 

Broadhurst police station commander, superintendent Obusitswe Lokae said at present, the report received is that the woman died in her sleep at Broadhurst Extension 16.  The deceased’s 51-year-old roommate alerted police early in the morning about the incident.

“The deceased’s roommate alleges that the deceased attended a certain church in Mmopane village and returned back late in the evening in good health with no sign of illness,” he said.  “She said they went to sleep together as they also shared a bed. The deceased was still healthy at that point.

“The roommate said she was woken from her deep sleep by a strange snoring sound from the deceased. “The witness said that she tried to wake her roommate up, but the 49-year-old could not be woken up. She alerted other tenants in the area and they reported the matter to police.”

A post-mortem was due to be conducted yesterday. “Police have been interviewing possible witnesses, but at this point in time, we have not yet collected enough information to answer the claims being made.

“We cannot comment on those allegations at the moment,” he said.  Witnesses who spoke to Mmegi said the deceased returned from church with a small mirror which she had been instructed to stare into while praying into at exactly 12 o’clock midnight.

The pastor from the church allegedly told the deceased that this would solve all her problems. “She told me that she was instructed to wake up at 12 midnight and pray staring into that mirror.  She was told she would see all of her enemies reflected in that mirror and that her problems would be solved

“The pastor told her that after praying she should turn the mirror upside down, step on it to break it and that after this, all troubles would be solved something.

“Her roommate suspects she did this,” the witness said, requesting anonymity. Other witnesses said the mirror was found broken in the room, lending credence to the mysterious story. “We found that mirror broken in the room with her other foot still stepping on it. “We suspect that she might have seen something that killed her from that mirror or something strange occurred while she was praying,” said the witness.
