All candidates who have interest in contesting for positions in the BNOC board were expected to have submitted their nominations yesterday.

All eyes are on the candidates who have shown interest in replacing outgoing president, Negros Kgosietsile. BNOC chief executive officer, Tuelo Serufho told Mmegi Sport yesterday that they had received the nominations. “We are going to inform the different federations who the candidates are before the elections which are set for October 7. The idea is to make that announcement before elections day,” he said.

There are five candidates who have shown interest in running for the presidency; Ookeditse Malesu, Botsang Tshenyego, Tebogo Lebotse-Sebego, Daniel Molaodi and France Mabiletsa.

Lebotse-Sebego is from a non-Olympic sport and is the current Botswana Netball Association president. This might work to her disadvantage, as non-Olympic codes do not vote in BNOC elections. Molaodi has been in charge of Botswana Volleyball Federation and sits on the Botswana National Sport Commission (BNSC) board. He, however, is expected to relinquish his BNSC position, to allow him to stand for the BNOC presidency. Mabiletsa has never been at the helm of any association, although he is highly spoken off as an administrator.

Kgosietsile’s assistant, Tshenyego, is seen as the ideal candidate but there are reports he is destined for a better offer at the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development.

Being part of a system might work for or against Tshenyego, depending on how affiliates perceive Kgosietsile and his committee’s tenure.

Malesu has just left the Botswana Football Association where he served briefly as chief executive officer.

He has experience as a BNSC board member and stints at swimming and karate.
