Police arrest 27 for smash and grab offences

The suspects, who are aged between 18 and 25 were arrested in a police operation conducted on Friday and Saturday.

The suspects have been targeting motorists, especially women at traffic lights, passengers alighting or boarding public transport vehicles at bus stops, robbing them of money, cellphones and laptops.

Other victims were tailed from ATM machines and robbed in the process. The suspects have been remanded in custody for further investigations.

Meanwhile, a 28-year-old Motswana woman of White City was arrested on Friday after she was found in possession of large quantities of cartons of cigarettes suspected to have been smuggled into the country.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
