Insiders who attended the BOPEU NEC meeting informed Mmegi that the meeting was called exclusively with this agenda item on the table. The BOPEU NEC’s decision was expected to be the guiding light when its business wing board, Babereki Investments, where Motsamai is employed as the executive chairperson, met on Monday and triggered into action the decision of BOPEU, the sole owners of Babereki Investments.

When Mmegi reached Motsamai for comment Saturday evening, he said if such a decision had been taken by his superiors, he was not aware of it, or any meeting that discussed his fate in his absence. “Comrade, I read on Facebook, just like you. If it is true, I will confirm when I have received the letter of the sacking you are asking me about”.

BOPEU acting president, Masego Mogwera, who is alleged to have spearheaded  the case to sack her former boss, on Saturday denied any knowledge of the meeting, nor the decision to sack Motsamai, while her deputy, Martin Gabobale, who also chairs Babereki Investments also denied the Saturday meeting. However, sources told Mmegi that the meeting was held at a CBD hotel, where Mogwera presented on the losses incurred by BOPEU at its investments with a Samsung franchise that is now being liquidated, leaving BOPEU with nothing.

The Samsung joint venture had opened several outlets in Gaborone, Palapye and Francistown, with their CBD outlet housed at BOPEU House before it was shut down.

Mmegi has learnt that the NEC has called for a forensic audit to be done at the union.

BOPEU secretary general, Topias Marenga referred this publication to Mogwera, “who’s better placed to answer on this issue.” “Keep on trying her numbers,”  was Marenga ‘s parting shot encouragement.

Mogwera, who had promised to respond to Mmegi enquiries, claimed to be in a meeting until 6.30pm yesterday. At around to 7pm, she was no longer picking her mobile phone.
