Parties yet to identify candidates for Tshimoyapula

 

Tshimoyapula councillor, Leposo Mosarwe died last month after a short illness. Mmegi has learnt that the BDP members who have shown interest to contest for primaries might compromise.

“The reason why some of them have started negotiating amongst themselves is because time for nominations of candidates to be submitted to the IEC is due soon. Nominations will be held in two weeks time and if the party is not ready, then we will not be represented,” a source said yesterday.  However, the identities of the candidates are yet to be known. The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Slumber Tsogwane has issued a writ for the by-election. Nominations of candidates will be held on September 15 and the election will be held on October 7. 

Serowe North BDP branch chairperson, Baratiwa Matheothe said: “The deadline for submissions of names is today (Monday). That is when I will know the number of people who have shown interest. As a party, we encourage compromise, but we are not going to force it on people.

The committee will meet this week to decide the day in which the primaries will be held”. He said his party has already started campaigns in the area and they are optimistic that they will retain the ward.  However the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa said he was still waiting for the report from the area concerning the by-election. “I will comment after I have read the report from the
