Masalila was a BDP councillor for Tatitown ward on two occasions before he decided not to stand for the BDP primaries prior to the 2014 general elections because he felt that he had run his course.

Masalila confirmed to Mmegi in an exclusive interview that voters have convinced him to come out of political woodwork and try his luck again during the BDP primary elections that will be held in the ward next year.

“It is true that I will contest in the BDP primary elections next year in the Tatitown ward. I voluntarily retired from politics with a good name in my party. I have a right just like any democrat to express interest to contest for the BDP primary elections in this ward,” said Masalila.

He stated that in life especially in the unpredictable sphere of politics, political decisions are not always cast in stone.

He said: “Some voters feel that I retired prematurely from politics while I still had a lot to offer. I have simply decided to come out of retirement not to fight with other democrats who are aspiring to stand for the same office as myself. I am simply answering a call of some of the democrats in the ward who still believe that I am a credible and valuable candidate.”

Because there is only one position on offer to contest for, Masalila said voters will decide who they want to represent them against the opposition in the 2019 general elections.

“The wishes of the voters is of paramount importance and should be respected by anyone who will contest our primary elections. Democrats should rally behind the person who will triumph after we hold our primary elections.

The BDP is bigger than any individual. Our major aim is to defeat the opposition and then govern the country,” said Masalila.
