Women urged to fight for their marriages

Speaking during the ST Anthony Catholic Church women’s month celebration dubbed, ‘Happy belated Women’s month’, Palapye business woman Gloria Orufeng said that a woman of faith should never even think of the word divorce when things get tough. She said a woman was created with a strong character hence she should fight for her household.

“A woman is the light for all nations and upon her creation she was designed in a special way that is to be a rock which is unshaken amidst tribulations. As women we are largely challenged but the strong character that has been instilled in us by God should be able to pull us through all this challenges,” she said.

Orufeng observed that, “marriage is of no exception to those challenges we face as women therefore a woman of faith should not believe in divorce she should be able build up all the broken pieces until her home is fixed”.

Marriage is very sacred and God’s union which should be protected by all means moreover, she said, adding that it was up to women of this generation to fight the divorce statistics that to set a good example for the coming generation.

“With such statistics I am afraid for our younger generation. We should create a healthy marriage environment for them so that they understand the worth of this sacred union otherwise I am afraid to say in the next coming years marriage will just be another thing of the past,” she said.

Orufeng also called for women to empower each other economically as most of them are heads of their families and have been left to fend for their children alone.

Brother Fani Nong OMI of ST Anthony Catholic Church also shared the same sentiments, urging women to speak life and peace among each other instead of destroying each other with gossip.

Brother Nong said that a woman was created to bring warmth, peace and love among nations. “As you are gathered here celebrating your month you should introspect and ask yourself what kind of a woman are you, do you uplift others or destroy them,” he said.

The day was also graced by elders of Palapye who were honored by megagolwane (shawls) and head wraps as a symbol of woman with strong character and also appreciating them for the role they play as mothers.
