Man Hacks Girlfriend With Axe On The Head -Woman admitted in ICU

The 25-year-old, Kwama Monyamane is currently on life support in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital in a critical condition.

On Friday the court heard that the complainant’s boyfriend, James Motlhabane, 37, a wheel alignment technician at Tyre Services, allegedly struck Monyamane with an axe on the head numerous times before fleeing.

The incident happened on October 10 at Mpatane ward in Borolong village. The accused, who is currently incarcerated in prison on a holding charge of unlawful wounding, will appear in court again on October 27 for status hearing.

Motlhabane was not asked to take plea when he appeared in court on Friday. Inspector Patrick Mapodise prayed with the court to remand the accused in custody pending police investigations.

“The accused has been on the run and was only arrested on Thursday at Gerald Estates in Francistown after he allegedly committed the offence at Borolong. We are yet to record a statement from the complainant and other potential witnesses.

“We fear that if the accused is granted bail now, he may interfere with our investigations.

Also, the community of Borolong has been angered by what the accused allegedly did and may harm him if he is granted bail,” Mapodise said.

Motlhabane said he had nothing to say concerning the State’s application that he be remanded in custody pending police investigations.

The police also prayed that Motlhabane be remanded in custody because the condition of his girlfriend may change for the worst, adding that if that happens, he will face a serious charge of murder.

The police suspect that the harrowing incident happened because Motlhabane suspected that his girlfriend was cheating him with another man.
