Gaborone Philharmonic Voices gives surprise acts

The choir took part in the Gaborone International Music and Culture (GIMC) Week’s Choral Music Festival at Ba Isago Hall recently. 

The beautiful melodies that they sang at the competition are Musulila and Hook Haneu. GPV, a choir of young talented Batswana also treated the audience to beautiful marabi songs.  They sang songs like Koloi and Re Tla Tshabela Kae that got the audience spellbound.

As if there were not enough surprises for the day, the organisers also gave the audience a taste of South African choral. Voice of Harmony from University of Cape Town treated the audience to a surprise act.

The talented choir made up of of young women and me sang a song that raised awareness on rape and abuse of women. In the song, the choir urged men to start protecting women and the girl-child, as they need their protection and love.

Local opera group known as Mowana Singers treated the audience to a breathtaking performance. They started the show with a Soprano solo by Kealeboga Morentwa titled Queen of the Knight in collaboration with Mozart Magic flute.

Her partner Pako Modise also spoilt the audience with a beautiful Italian song, Caro Mio Ben known as My Darling Dear.

The pair later had a duet performance where they sang one of the famous Italian songs titled, Brindisi! Libiamo ne’lieti callic or Toast! Let’s drink from the joyful chalices. The pair also treated the audience to a tenor and soprano duet where they sang a song titled Time to Say Goodbye.

A Chirstian choir, Copus Christi Catholic Choir, from Broadhurst also blessed the audience with its sweet gospel melodies. The choir sang songs like The Lord is My Shepard and Matlala a song which talks of some kind of meat eaten at traditional weddings, Modimo ke Lerato and Tlotlo e Nne go Modimo.

Multi-Genre Artists Choir also treated the audience to beautiful performances. They sang songs such as Motse wa Setswana, which they sang at the President’s Day Choral Festival where they scooped the first prize in the international levels, Isixhobo, Nonyane Tsele, Meli Wam, Mme Mma Selina.
