FUB honours football legends

FUB secretary, Kgosana Masaseng said they found it fit to broaden the awards this year by introducing some categories including legends, officials, women and other individual categories.
“As the union that also deals with retired players, we found it necessary to embark on a mission that can bring them back to the game.
We are doing these because they feel neglected and want to contribute to Botswana football. We appreciate what they have done for football in the past,” he said. Masaseng also said they would continue to identify more veterans since the Botswana Football Association (BFA) president, Maclean Letshwiti had emphasised the need to involve them.
“These legends are former national team players and played for several teams in the 60s,” he said. “Therefore, it was not easy to spot and find them however we were assisted by the BFA technical director, Sexton Kowa and others.”
Masaseng said despite the low financial situation at the union, their intention is to grow bigger and bigger every season. He appealed to the corporate world to support them.
When honouring the legends, Kowa said he is happy that most of the players were present during the awards ceremony. He said it was the chance for people to see them after doing a tremendous job for football in the country.
He said these are people who played football during times when there were limited resources. “FUB did a very great job for embarking on a mission to identify and honour legends because we cannot do anything without their assistance and guidance,” Kowa said.
The honoured legends are Tizzah Sekgaphane, Freddy Modise, Horatio Mahloane, Phillip Mauco, Maduo Maoto, Wonder Mothelesi, Slow Pabalinga, Wilfred Kgosi, Ziki Kraai, Ilanga Jim, Lele Sebele, Manje Koitsiwe, Slumber Bokole, Prince Galetshoge, Rejoice Bimbo, Churchill Gape, Bankene Mokgware, Thomas Chawilane, Ben Segale and McPherson Ferguson
