Chiefs put aside problems to grind win

Speaking to journalists after the match, Morapedi admitted that the level of fitness of his players was not up to scratch because of challenges regarding training sessions. He however said they will continue to work hard and do what they are supposed to do, to grind results on the field. “We did it (the victory) within the white lines (on the field). Some things happen including not having consistent and proper training which have a negative impact. That is why I wanted to restrict myself to the white lines and yes other factors are there. We cannot cry much about factors that we currently have no control over them,” Morapedi said after the match.
He said the two draws against Gaborone United (GU) and Sankoyo Bush Bucks gave them hope ahead of the Gunners’ game. He said during their team talk they agreed that if they do not concede, they might win the match. In the first match against GU, they played to a 1-1 draw before they settled for a 2-2 draw against Sankoyo in Maun. Regarding the imminent arrival of Kinnah Phiri as the head coach, Morapedi said he would not want to factualise rumours and will leave the issue to the management. “I still say within the white lines, this is where we are. About who comes in at Chiefs is an issue of the management and I cannot comment on that,” Morapedi said.
Star midfielder and captain, Lesego Galenamotlhale also agreed that there are problems within the team off the field but added that as players they will have to focus on the job on the field. He said the management will take care of such problems which include some players not coming to some training sessions because of the club’s financial situation.
“I think our fitness is not really up to scratch, all of us. Sometimes others come to training and others do not. We really need to work on that to ensure that we all come to training so that we reach up to 99% fitness,” he said. Galenamotlhale was voted man of the match and capped his overall performance with an assist to Lubinda for the goal. The victory pushed Chiefs to position five with five points from three matches.
Meanwhile, Rollers moved to the top of the log standings after their third straight victory on Saturday against Police XI. They replaced Orapa United who have been sitting at the summit despite the fact that the latter also registered an important away victory over GU on Sunday. Both have collected nine points from three matches. Jwaneng Galaxy moved to third position following their 2-1 win over Black Forest, two points behind both Orapa United and Rollers. Security Systems are still languishing at the bottom with a point they collected on Saturday against BDF XI.
