Summerfling gives emerging designers, models exposure

The event that aims to launch different local fashion brands is in its third year. According to the event coordinator, Allysonbuck Moamogwe the brand-launching event for Botswana’s up and coming fashion designers was not a one-day show.

“The build up to the runway will introduce the fashion fanatics to the designers and their vision.  The runway will showcase their magic and the months after will highlight their work.  We chose Street meets Couture as our theme.  It is meant to take designers out of their comfort zone and motivate them to compete on a global stage,” she said.

She said their collaboration with the designers and models does not end at the show, as they will be doing various activities to promote them.  She said they would be casting designers and models, profiling them, and selling them on social media and on various media platforms such as blogs so that people recognise and celebrate them.

She pointed out that even though they intend to give exposure to as many new talented designers, most of them did not show interest in partaking in the fashion show.

She expressed great concern over the minimum number of designers who register for the event.  She called on more designers to partake at the event in the next coming years saying that would benefit them a lot and help groom the fashion industry.

“We want local designers to be known (internationally).  We want them to get the spotlight they deserve.  We believe we have a lot of talent here in Botswana and believe that they can become brands that are able to compete on the international platform.  Raven Brands is more into unearthing upcoming artists, fashion designers, models and other local fashion and entertainment talents to Batswana,” she proudly said.

This year, Summerfling Fashion Show will have four designers showcasing at the event.  Amongst them, three will be showcasing their clothing lines while one will showcase her jewellery line.

However, Moamogwe pointed out that they were in talks with one designer who specialises in fascinators (hats).  The designers showcasing at the event include Kushu, Stret Amp Couture, Sparkle Designs and Twisted Threads Fashion.

Upcoming artists such as Snubby and Gape Matale, who will be accompanied by a band will be entertaining the audience.  Stalls go for P400 and are open to different business entities to showcase and sell their services and products.  Tickets are sold at P200 each.  The event will be held at Travel Lodge on November 3, 2017 at 6pm till late.
