Last year the event was marred with a lot of criticism due to the poor production and coordination, which the event organisers blamed on the production company they had hired. “While conceptualising this event we want to engage with a production company that will deliver high quality and up to standard production that will have the awards create a mark and be on an international standard,” BOMU disciplinary committee chair and head of procurement, Nkgopolang Tlhomelang said during a press brief.

He urged production companies to place bids for the award ceremony gig, but tipped them that they should have quality equipment and have relevant work experience to meet such calibre of standards. “We need a professional company.  Last year we were the first people to notice that the production is not up to par before everyone else did,” Tlhomelang said.

The closing date to place the bids is October 22. He also touched on the issue of BOMU coming up with a disciplinary committee that will deal and advice artists on discipline within the industry and in general as an artist.

Meanwhile, BOMU has introduced new categories such as Best Artist Living With Disability, Best Music Promoter, Best Cooperate Person and Best International Artist.  There are 37 categories in total.

Still at the same event Director of Brand Botswana, Gaorekwe Gaorekwe urged local artists to be professional with their craft as it will lead them to having successful careers.

He also encouraged them to protect their own local music industry just like how Nigerians have done in the previous years, which has made it difficult for international acts to penetrate into their music industry.  Already, there are nominees for the 2017 edition.
