Molefhi, who is also the Infrastructure and Housing Development Minister, told a recent Kgotla meeting that farmers had had to spend half a million Pula to connect their farms to the grid and the project would reduce these costs to as little as P18,000.

“Therefore farmers will not have an excuse for not connecting electricity and embark on commercial activities that employ others,” he said.

The Motloutse farms electrification project, an initiative under the governance of SPEDU, will cover 44 farms along Motloutse River between Mmadinare and Bobonong.

Molefhi stressed that government would continue alleviating the cost of services where possible, while others would have to be attained at cost, due to the lower budgetary revenues the country is experiencing.

“This is a challenge because development is continuous as the population continues to grow,” he said. “Resources are very limited and there is need to use them prudently. “Those who benefit from government programmes must fully utilise them because those programmes may be around forever.

You know that this country’s economy is heavily reliant on minerals which are depleting.” He encouraged political leaders to emphasise the value of self-sustenance to members of the community.
