Zone VI Basketball Championships moved to GC

The opening ceremony however will be held at Lobatse Sports Complex while the rest of the tournament will be moved to the University of Botswana (UB) sporting arena.

“We received a sponsorship from the UB sporting arena in form of the venue which we think is a good sporting facility for a tournament of such a high standard.

We therefore decided to move it from Lobatse and have the official opening ceremony and day one of the matches that side,” said Botswana Basketball president Boineelo Hardy.

The offer by UB sporting arena comes at a time  when the association had previously shown interest in hosting the tournament at the venue but due to shortage of funds, their budget did not allow them.

Hardy expressed excitement with the new developments stating that the venue has a professional set up. The tournament that will feature southern Africa basketball teams will be aired on Btv and will also be streamed on the Tsena BW website.

Meanwhile, local basketball coaches with teams participating in the tournament have expressed how ready their teams are for the tournament.

Dolphins basketball team coach, Trynos Moyo stated that spirits are high in his camp and his players are excited to be participating in the tournament. “The boys are motivated and physically fit. Morale is high in the camp. They are psychologically ready with a little bit of fear that they are playing against professional basketball players,” Moyo said.

Police V coach, James Kalebwe believes his troops are ready for the regional tournament saying the girls are looking good.

“This is the highest level of fitness ever that I have seen on my team. It has been intense, we have worked hard and prepared for this tournament since the year started. We are gunning for the semi finals,” Kalebwe said. Teams from different countries started arriving in the country on Wednesday.
