The president of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT), Nicky Fisher made the call during the achievement ceremony held at the Gaborone International Convention Centre (GICC) last Thursday evening. The event was aimed at celebrating the achievements of individuals studying qualifications in Botswana, who have reached special landmarks in their AAT career over the past year. Fisher said with an ever-changing world, it is essential for the students to keep their skills up-to-date, in order to reach their full potential and enrich their career. “I know how much hard work our students around the world put into their studies, and professional membership of AAT not only recognises their achievements, but also provides the framework for their future continuing professional development,” said Fisher.

A total of 250 AAT member successes were recognised during the ceremony, which attracted over 400 guests. “I feel very privileged to have attended the AAT Botswana achievement ceremony and thrilled to have been able to join our members in celebrating their success,” Fisher said.

The British Deputy High Commissioner to Botswana, Emily Summers was amongst the attendees, along with AAT director of marketing and commercial, Andrew Williamson.

AAT, as a world leading qualification and professional body for technical accountants and bookkeepers, with over 140,000 members in 100 countries, offers a range of qualifications that are open to all regardless of previous education or age. These include the AAT accounting qualifications that can provide a route into chartered accountancy, and the AAT bookkeeping qualifications that can support business growth through accurate and up-to-date financial records. AAT caters for college leavers, to older people hoping to change their careers, or learn the skills to successfully run their own businesses.

An AAT accountant is a qualified accounting professional with the practical and technical skills needed to support businesses with their accounting activities. Typical job roles of an AAT accountant include financial accountant, commercial analyst, senior finance officer, payroll manager, Value Added Tax (VAT) accountant and tax supervisor.
