Speaking at a UDC rally in Borakalalo ward on Saturday, which had attracted multitudes from within and outside Molepolole, Khan warned against working outside opposition unity. “We cannot have an opposition party which only aims at discrediting other opposition parties. As opposition party members, we need to be careful with other opposition members who plan evil for others. As opposition, our role is clear - to unseat the ruling party. We should not be distracted by other people who claim to be on our side while speaking badly about us,” Khan said.

At the same rally, the UDC president, who is also the leader of the coalition partner, the Botswana National Front (BNF),  Duma Boko assured  that the UDC was still intact and would not be easily shaken.

“Any political party has its own problems, but when the problems settle, things become normal. Again, the party is very strong when its members stand up during hard times. I am very proud that UDC members had stood for their party and that is why even today you came in large numbers to hear for yourselves,” Boko said.

He said the party members should start work on their structures and ensure that they recruit new members to the party. “We had our differences with Botswana Congress Party (BCP) in 2014 and here we are. Dumelang Saleshando has grown up in BNF and today we are talking the same language because our aims and objectives are one. We have never been enemies like what people thought. We don’t have to hate even Ndaba Gaolathe of Alliance for Progressives”.

Taking to the stage, the BCP president (Dumelang) Saleshando said Batswana should not make a  mistake of thinking that things would change when Mokgweetsi Masisi takes over because he has failed during the time when he was the Minister of Education and Skills Development.

Saleshando said Batswana have lost more jobs during President Ian Khama and Masisi’s time and things would remain the same. He said what is most painful is that Batswana still do not have land.

The rally was different from others as the Tebelopele voluntary testing centre personnel had set up their tents to encourage people to do HIV testing. Informal traders also took advantage to sell their food.
