New faces at COSBOTS

The elections, handled by an independent organisation, Botswana Council of Non-Governmental Organisations (BOCONGO), went on as planned even though the members did not form a quorum.
The members elected on the day included six representatives from the music category, two from associations and one from the Ministry Of Investment Trade and Industry. The musicians voted in on the day included Tomeletso Sereetsi of Sereetsi and Natives and Game ‘Zeus’ Bantsi both from Team Real change. Veteran artists Alfredo Mosimanegape and Mpho Nakedi from Team Bagaka were also voted in. Trinity Mpho, who is based abroad, was among the members voted in alongside Winani Kambutu.
Former COSBOTS chairperson Solo B Monyame, who wanted to get back on the driving seat, was not voted alongside his team members like Lecco of 999. Monyame who has been at helm of this organisation for various terms was one of the most unwanted candidates and disgruntled members ensured that he did not return to the board. Monyame is also implicated in corruption allegations and CIPA is currently holding on to the forensic report. However other members like Prince Monna and Barolong Seboni remain part of the board members because their term has not yet elapsed.
All of the various members have preached integrity, transparency and fairness once they take over the troubled COSBOTS. Now all eyes will be on them as they vote for the new chairperson to lead the organisation.
Speaking to Showbiz, COSBOTS communications manager Seeletso Lekgaba said the AGM was conducted swiftly despite the failure to form a quorum. “The COSBOTS constitution allowed the AGM to continue at the adjourned meeting even if it did not form a quorum,” she said.
Lekgaba said even though the AGM spilled on to the next day, all issues were addressed. She said some members left early because they wanted to vote right away but it could not work. She said now that members have been ushered in, a date would be set for the board members to vote for their preferred leadership.
