The Monitor has learnt that the police were chasing suspects who allegedly attacked a businessman in Gabane in the early hours of Tuesday. Five men are said to have attacked the unnamed businessman when he was about to enter his residence.

He, however managed to press the security emergency button, which alerted security officers manning his place. The security officers responded by calling the police, who responded quickly. It is said that the suspects then fled the scene upon seeing the police car driving towards them, which forced the police to chase them.

Police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Witness Bosija confirmed the incident to The Monitor. He said the incident happened on Tuesday at 2 am following a chase with robbers.

“We received a report of robbery in Gabane and we responded promptly. We met the suspects on the way, but when we signalled for them to stop, they didn’t and that’s when the chase started. We had to call other units,” Bosija said.

He said during the chase with the suspects, two police vehicles were involved in an accident, resulting in eight officers being admitted at Bokamoso Private Hospital. He explained that six officers were treated for minor injuries and released the same morning while two are still hospitalised.

“The other two are still hospitalised but in a stable condition,” he said. Meanwhile, Bosija said they have arrested two foreigners in connection to the incident. He said the suspects have appeared before Broadhurst magistrate’s court charged with theft.
