Crunch BPP, UDC meeting postponed

The meeting did not take place because BPP president, Motlatsi Molapise, was said to be unwell.

The UDC National Executive Committee  (NEC) meeting was due to feature Botswana Congress Party (BCP) leader, Dumelang Saleshando and UDC president, Duma Boko.

The meeting, seen as crucial to unity in the UDC, has been postponed to next week Thursday in Francistown. Some of the issues that were to be discussed at the meeting include that of constituency allocations and the number of BPP representatives within UDC NEC.

The BPP has long expressed displeasure at the allocation of just four parliamentary seats after they had demanded seven seats.

The BPP has also contended the arrival of the BCP into the UDC. The party is yet to submit four names of representatives to seat in the UDC NEC.

BPP has not been attending UDC NECmeetings since the BCP became a member of the UDC. Their contention is that BCP has not signed any legal document with UDC to formally join.

“It is true UDC NEC was supposed to meet the leader of BPP on issues that have been raised by the party.

The meeting did not materialise because Molapise is not well. It has been postponed to next week. I cannot comment on the agenda of the meeting,” UDC spokesperson, Moeti Mohwasa said.

Mmegi has learnt BPP will have its leadership forum on November 4, 2017 to decide whether to continue with their affiliation to UDC or not. Efforts to get a comment from Molapise were not successful.
