Legae made headlines earlier this year after a spate of violent armed robberies in and around Gaborone, and the revelation that he had five other cases of rape and robbery pending.

He was also wanted for shooting and robbing a female acquaintance during the period. Legae allegedly committed some of the crimes after he was granted bail.

He escaped while on bail, and was arrested in North West Province, South Africa where is still in jail.

Appearing before Village principal magistrate Goodwill Makofi yesterday, state prosecutors in the armed robbery charges told the court that while they were not sure when Legae would be extradited, they wanted the trial to start on December 4.

A Kanye resident, Legae is suspected of robbing Choppies Super Store in Block 8 back in June at gunpoint, making off with P112,000 and R13,000 in cash.

Legae and his co-accused, Mogomotsi Thupane (34) of Moshupa, are also suspects in an armed robbery case at Saverite supermarket in Moshupa where they allegedly walked away with an undisclosed amount of money.

The duo are allegedly linked to a trail of armed robberies that took place between May and June.

Thupane, who was arrested and is in custody, was found with P38,000 and a vehicle suspected to have been used in the crimes.

Botswana Police Service spokespeople previously told Mmegi that it was possible for extradition to take longer periods of time because the country where the accused person should be extradited from has to conduct its own judicial processes.
