Palapye�s Finest Dance Crew redefines jives

The trio, Bokamoso ‘Shilolo’ Kgomo (21), Kabelo ‘Shisaboi’ Sechele (25), Abel ‘Chenema’ Mositwane (25) formed their dance crew in 2003. They decided to take a break in 2015. They bounced back in 2016 and have been booked up for most of the Palapye events such as Palapye Vibes, Shisanyama, Easter Bash, Webechuana.
Shilolo is a judge at Dance of BW, while Shishaboi has a certificate in Performing Arts. They are also part of Moratiwa Musical Theatre directed by the legendary Soccer Moruakgomo.
The crew, which mostly does afro buja and hip hop, told Showbiz that they are also receiving bookings even nationally, and that they shared stage with the likes of Vee Mampeezy, La Timmy, ATI.
They are also part of the crew that welcomed KAST at Hunters Inn Pub during his 1,000km walk.
They also represented Batswana during the BOT50 celebrations in Durban (South Africa) at the Botswana Embassy.
“We meet mostly during festive season and that’s when we get more bookings but still in mid year when booked we perform,” said one of the dancers, Shisaboi. Though the trio do their own mix tapes and dance to them, they disclosed that they are more into dance than singing because they realised that art is still undermined in the country so they wanted to uproot the dance art in order to show people that one can live through arts.
“Most youth like dancing just as a source of entertainment, but they ought to know that one can earn a living just through dance. We wanted even the younger generations who are interested in dancing to realise just how much that can be of importance in their lives.
“For now we mostly do dancing. However, we will introduce the element of singing as time goes on. For now we just want to focus on dancing only until we reach a level in which we would feel that we have grown enough in the industry to be able to do both full time,” added Shisaboi. Palapye’s Finest’s biggest dream is to open a dance club in Palapye where people will be able to learn dance moves for free. The trio wants to give Palapye a big name in the arts and give the village a brand. Shisaboi further added that they wish to keep the youth here busy through various events so that they may not indulge in issues of drugs and alcohol abuse due to being unemployed.
He said once they get funds they are planning to have a tour whereby they will teach children some of their dance moves as well as dance theory to help inspire and motivate them. He encouraged Palapye artists to work together for perfection and to make a name for their village.
