However, even though make-up has gained popularity amongst both genders, many lack the skills and techniques of applying it. Some of them struggle to choose colours that compliment their skin tone and in some instances some apply too much make up, which turns out to be a sore in the eye.

That is why a team of passion driven local make-up artists decided to offer Batswana make up artistry services.  “One of our team members has a certificate from London Make-up Academy and one has master make up Certificate from Namibia. The idea came from Peggy Grynberg, a university student in Botswana.

We are based in Gaborone and are willing to share our skills throughout the country to those who are interested. Be it beginners or established make-up artists to perfect what they have,” said one of Road 2 Beauty coordinators, Dorris Grynberg. Dorris told Showbiz that their mandate was to help those who did not have any idea on how to apply make-up, and those that have been doing it incorrectly.

“Full coverage make-up has longevity. When done professionally, make-up can last much longer. Skin, nail and hair care are very vital in every person’s appearance as they work hand in hand and contributes to one’s beauty. Make-up enhances an individual’s beauty because it has the ability to conceal facial features that some people feel insecure about. It is used by people for many reasons, be it self-expression and can also give others self-confidence if applied correctly,” she said.

Dorris said their course outline teaches their clients the following; how to prep and prim your face; introduction of make-up brushes and their purposes; eyebrow shaping; eye shadow techniques, highlighting and contouring; foundation and powder application, eye lashes application; lipstick application; day to night make-up, skin pigmentation and skin care; directions of eye make-up and eye brow zones and awareness of products. Dorris stressed that their courses are 95% practical and five percent theory.

“Our up coming event covers all our course outline. Even though our course outline seems long, we will try to make it basic so that it does not to scare clients. We also offer one-on-one training, for clients who are interested in learning more about applying make-up. One-on-one is important for aspiring make-up artists.

Our classes take the whole day,” she said. Dorris added that they use products from Kryolan professional make-up such as Kiko Milan, Urban decay, Mac, Black up, Black Opel, LA girl and Be nnye powder. She added that their courses are ideal for unemployed people who were keen to make a living out of their make-up artistic skills.

“We are not just focusing on towns only. We have realised that the youth residing on rural areas are always left out because many services are taken to urban areas. Road 2 Beauty will give those young people a chance to learn make-up art and use it to earn a leaving.

They can use their skills to apply make-up at weddings, parties, bridal showers, baby showers, beauty pageants and other events and get paid,” she added. She said all interested parties have to pay P500 tutorial fees.

The fee covers tutorial, lunch, photo shoot, starter kit that includes five main make-up brushes and beauty blender. Road 2 Beauty’s Gaborone make-up class tutorials will be held at Oasis Motel on September 9, 2017.
