Tlokweng cllrs jump to BNF

Last week, Mmegi revealed that BMD’s four Tlokweng councillors were all contemplating moves away from the troubled opposition party. Three were expected to decamp to the BNF, while one was said to be set on the Alliance for Progressives (AP).

“It is true I have joined the BNF,” Lesunyaneng ward councillor, Kenneth Kgosimore told Mmegi yesterday.

“I joined on Monday after finishing my consultation with the ward.”

Kgosimore said he wanted to continue being part of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), but not as a part of the BMD.

“The BMD has many problems which I don’t think will be resolved anytime soon. It’s current leadership has a lot of work to do and people do not want to be associated with it anymore,” he said.

Tlokweng central councillor, Dichabe Seitshiro told Mmegi he too was off to the BNF after getting the green light from his electorates.

“My ward has a lot of BNF members and I won because of the UDC. I therefore feel I should join a party which exist in the area,” Seitshiro said.

Meanwhile, Baitapisi Leinane of Metlhabeng ward also confirmed that he had joined the AP from the BMD.

The BMD’s last remaining councillor in Tlokweng, Phenyo Segokgo, is yet to make his move. Segokgo, who is also the South East District chairperson is said to be still weighing his options.

At Gaborone City Council, six councillors defected from the BMD to join AP earlier this week.

The six councillors include Sesupo Jacobs, Motlogelwa Moatlhodi, Tidimalo Thungthung, Marks Bobi, Latelang Pereko and Nkadimang Moses.

The BMD is left with three councillors in the city council, being Rhoda Sekgororoane, Daniel Mokgatla and Tsholofelo Amos while the two others, Tshepo Moloko and Mankie Sekete, are said to be negotiating with opposition parties other than AP.

Previously, the BMD had 11 councillors to the BNF’s 12.

“It is true six of us have already joined the AP as you saw us putting on the uniform during the branding launch. We did not agree with what BMD leadership was doing and therefore we had to defect,” Moatlhodi told Mmegi yesterday.
