The maverick Phage also extended his apology to all who may have been hurt or affected in anyway by what he said at a political rally in Molepolole over the weekend.

“I also wish to extend the same apology to the leadership of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) under which the rally was called. Batho betsho ke ikokobetsa fa pele ga lona,” Phage wrote in a letter addressed to Lentswe La Batswapong yesterday.

“I wish to state that I said what I said in jest, but I realise that it has not been received well in some quarters. I also wish to state that though I made the said utterances at a UDC rally, my views do not in anyway represent those of the UDC or the Botswana Congress Party (BCP).”

He added that the BCP, the party he belongs to, has demonstrated over time that it shuns tribalism and everything that it represents. “That is why it has members in all the 57 constituencies of this country. Its leadership is not elected along tribal lines,” he said.
