An own goal by Thato Ogopotse and a well struck shot by Lemponye Tshireletso were enough to give Rollers the victory. The last time Rollers lost a match was against Chiefs last season in the first round.

There were not many surprises in both line-ups. Both sides had equal chances in the first half, but it was Rollers who nearly got the lead when Segolame Boy took a long range shot next to the edge of the box. His shot hit the upright before it went out. Chiefs also had a chance from the corner kick but Rollers’ defence managed to deal with it.

However just before half time, Rollers took the lead through an own goal from Chiefs midfielder, Ogopotse, attempting to defend a dangerous cross from the right, beat his goalkeeper, Noah Maposa. The goal separated the two sides at half time.

In the second half, Chiefs brought in Thatayaone Ramatlapeng to try and open up Rollers at the back but they were punished in the middle of the second half when Tshireletso beat Maposa with a brilliant shot after a good interchange of passes by Rollers attackers.

Rollers nearly scored another goal but Maposa managed to parry away Mthokozisi Msomi’s shot from close range.

The victory saw Rollers retain their top spot and are yet to lose a match after six games. The last time they lost a match was in the first round of the league against Chiefs. Magosi on the other hand have now recorded three straight defeats.

Speaking to the media after the game, Chiefs’ caretaker coach, Innocent Morapedi said the goal they conceded before half time destroyed their plans. He said at that time it was difficult to try and search for an equaliser before the two sides went for a recess.
