BOMU Awards A Disaster

The awards seemed more like a primary school prize giving event gone wrong if not worse. At the VIP section, the organisers failed to arrange seats for different dignitaries that would accommodate and make them feel comfortable. The VIP section was packed to the rafters making it hard for some revellers to stand up for some time before being given seats.
As if that was not enough, the awards presenters were seated on the same section with the media and some of the award nominees, which made it hard for them to have free movement. Some of the VIP guests went home in empty stomachs as the ushers did a horrible job ensuring that all VIP guests access their meal as per invitation only.
The sound and lighting were also not measuring up to standard for an event of such magnitude.
When handed the awards, the nominees would just depart from any side of the stage and some of the audience members who were either fans or family members would flock the stage causing chaos because of the lack of security and movement that could not be controlled.
However, Hip Hop artist Atasaone ‘ATI’ Molemogi’s lucky stars seemed to be out that night with lady luck on his side, as he won six awards. The young talented artist recently signed a P1 million deal with Botswana Telecommunications Corporation (BTC).
The Khiring Khiring Khorong Khorong hit maker seemed to have blown industry makers away with his immense talent. He walked away with the Best Hip Hop/Motswako Artist, Best Single, Best Collaboration where he worked with Young Amazing and Legacy DG on the popular song Khiring Khiring Khorong Khorong, Best Single Track, Best Male Artist and the Best Song of the Year awards.
The young artist donated some of his awards to the National Museum as a way of motivating upcoming artists. He dedicated some of his awards to his parents, fans, friends and family.
Charma Gal, the Mmokolodi singer, along with Skavenjah and Matsosangwao, scooped two awards each. The Sekuta artist walked away with Best Female Artist and Best Mosakaso Award, Skavenja won Best Afro Pop and Best Packaged Album while Matsosangwao won The Best DVD and The Best Traditional Music awards.
Having just emerged on the music scenes, Reuben Lekoetje and his artist, Obakeng Sengwaketse won The Best Producer and The Best Traditional Gospel music awards respectively.
Other artists who won awards include Zanele Tumelo with Best RnB, Batlaadira Radipitse with Best Folklore and Polka, Genious Senyatso with Best Jazz Album, Ounah with Best Contemporary Gospel, and Duma FM got the Best Electronic Media award with Sharon Mathala walking away with the Best Print Media award.
Most Dedicated Promoter went to Gilbert Seagile also known as PP, Best Artist Living With Disability went to Patricia Kgole, PK Proctor got Best Music Video, DJ Tatoo with Best DJ, Best House Dance went to DJ Binoh, Slizer won Best Kwaito Kwasa, and amongst others, Berry Heart took Best Dedicated Artist in Botswana award.
