Muvhangos Thandaza to host Master Class at UB

Dlathu plays the role of Thandaza Mokoena in South Africa’s popular soapie Muvhango. DM Creative Brands project coordinator, Thapelo Borakilwe told Showbiz that the Master Class event aims to upraise and enhance the theatre practice and television industry of Botswana.

“The Master Class is set to raise awareness on the vast knowledge that exists in television, film and theatre careers. It will focus on different disciplines of performance from preparation, scrip development to packaging one as a reputable performer.

“The Master Class is going to be a platform that will sensitise performers and all interested stakeholders on the systematic governing principles of performing arts and building a sustainable career.

We need to export world class talent from Botswana and this objective can be achieved through international benchmarking opportunities like these ones,” he said.

Borakilwe explained that the Master Class with Sindi Dlathu will touch on stage performance preparations, vocal training, perseverance and strategic planning in show business.

He said the class was ideal for performers or interested parties with little or no experience at all.

He added that during the event, Dlathu will provide individual attention to all attendees to achieve their goals. Borakilwe explained that the Master Class With Dlathu will finish with a question and answer session from the audience.

The objectives of the event are to provide skills and support to up and coming talent through various techniques, lead and provide an intimate experience for those with an ardent interest in the performing art and showcase to attendees an up-close experience with a television star.

Borakilwe added that his collaboration with Dlathu’s management, Seven Colours Communication from South Africa came after the company saw DM Creative Events’ good job in promoting artists.

He said the Seven Colours Communication then proposed that the two creative arts entities collaborate in bringing Dlathu to the country that is when the Master Class with Sindi Dlathu was born.

Dlathu is also known for her television roles as Nomfundo in the SABC 1 drama series Soul City (2001-2008). Starting young, Dlathu’s win at a national miming competition at age 11 was a sign of things to come. At 14 she was cast as the lead role’s understudy in the stage version of Sarafina and was commissioned as an assistant choreographer to Michael Peters, the man responsible for many of Michael Jackson’s dance routine. Her television credits include Muvhango, Khululeka, Justice for All and a six-season run on the SABC1 AIDS drama series Soul City.

Tickets cost P350 for general tickets. Each ticket includes free meal, question and answers with Dlathu, social media tagging and a goody bag. VIP tickets are said to be limited and not for sale.

Tertiary institutions that offer creative arts such as Limkokwing University, UB and others are urged to embrace the event. The event will start at 11am till 3pm.
