Woman, 37, accused of concealing birth

The court heard that the accused person between August 28 and 29, 2016 at or near Sese Quarantine Camp delivered a child and secretly disposed of the baby to conceal the birth.

The accused pleaded guilty to the offence. Mmesi adjourned the matter to September 7, 2017 for fact-finding. Still in court, in a separate case 28-year-old Ookeditse Matamatso, who is facing two counts of threat-to-kill and assault, pleaded with the court to grant him bail.

He said he has been in prison for too long pending judgement and questioned the time the complainant takes to heal.

The prosecution pleaded with the court to remand Matamatso in custody as the matter is under investigation and that they are still waiting for the complainant to get healed so that he can bring the medical report form.

The court heard that the accused was given bail and went on to assault the same complainant he threatened to kill leading to his bail being revoked.

Mmesi made it known to the accused that he will not get bail as he might have intentions to complete what he started.  She adjourned the matter to September 4, 2017 for status hearing. In yet another case before Chief Magistrate Kamogelo Mmesi, Bahakgametse Motlaesi of Botshabelo appeared for robbery. The court heard that on July 9, 2017 at around seven in the evening near Bosele Hotel, the accused approached and stabbed Mavis Ngwenya with an okapi knife. The accused then forcibly robbed the complainant of a handbag containing goods amounting to P890.

Motlaesi pleaded not guilty to the offence. The matter was adjourned to September 7, 2017 and the state is expected to bring seven witnesses before court.
