The 27-year-old Nigerian singer-songwriter and producer is scheduled to perform for the very first time in Botswana on November 4 at Duma grounds.

One of the show organisers, Alice Maygilip confirmed to Showbiz that Tekno is indeed coming to Botswana. Yapelo Motiki from MTN Business said they chose Tekno because Nigerian music is very popular in Botswana. She said Fables always strives to bring artists that have never performed in Botswana before. “Tekno was an easy choice and from the reaction that we are getting from people it was the right decision,” she said.

Motiki added that they changed the date because we had suggestions from the public that the date was not suitable for them as most were away on holiday. “The venue still remains the same, Duma grounds. As for another event this year, Fables always surprises,” she highlighted.

For those who listen to Nigerian music, Tekno needs no introduction and although many people know him for his hit Pana and Diana, the Nigerian star made a breakthrough with his hit Duro in 2015. In 2016 he signed with Sony Music with a list of Nigerian acts like Davido and Wizkid.

Tekno released a few more singles aimed at club play before making Duro. Last year, before releasing Pana, Tekno had an instrumental that reminded him of his breakout hit and it was enough inspiration for him to release what is his best hit since.

Pana went to capture other listeners the same way it conquered its creator, accumulating 30 million streams between YouTube and Spotify. According to Billboard websites, veterans like Trey Songz and Ludacris posted clips of themselves listening to the song on Instagram and Pana also caught the attention of Imran Majid, senior vice president of A&R at Columbia, who signed the track and re-released it in December.

In media interviews Tekno credited Davido with helping him earn recognition in Nigeria by contributing a verse to Holiday, which came out in 2013. Tekno, who is also a talented producer, has returned the favour by producing Davido’s most recent single, If. At a time where Nigerian music is trending and creeping into listeners’ consciousness, Tekno will aim to enjoy the same success in Botswana as he has been doing in Nigeria and other countries. The general ticket for the event is sold at P175 while the golden circle ticket is P300.
