In a well-attended ceremony on Friday, Dikgosi also donated indigenous trees such as Moroja, Monepenepe, Motlha, Modutu and Kurujane.

They also donated a photocopier, a fax machines, a printer and a scanner.

Handing over the donation, Kgosi Puso said the gesture comes amid government efforts to capacitate Dikgosi and improve the status of tribal administration in Botswana.

He said the equipment would assist in addressing the challenges at the Kgotla, which would in turn assist the Kopong community.

Regarding the trees, Kgosi Puso said children would eventually get to learn more about the usefulness of the indigenous trees, which Batswana have over the years survived on.

Outlining the role of Bogosi, Puso said it is foundation in which Botswana was built on, prior and postcolonial era.

He reminded the attendees that Dikgosi continue to play a pivotal role in the preservation of culture, hence communities should follow the leaders.

He said a ceremony such as this one is a platform for the communities to share ideas on how to develop their villages and revive cultural practices.

Turning to the role that Dikgosi continue to play in the fight against crime in Botswana, Kgosi Puso said at the centre of their deliberations in almost every Ntlo ya Dikgosi session, they lobby for increased resources to enable their administrations to combat crime.

“We have a mandate as Ntlo ya Dikgosi, and that is to give back to the communities, as we have done in Manyana where we built and donated a house to the underprivileged,” Kgosi Puso said.

He also shared that Dikgosi recently donated groceries and toiletry to Pabalelong hospice in Metsimotlhabe and Pandamatenga whereas at Sefhophe Kgotla and Lesoma they donated chairs and photocopier.

“To underline our cultural preservation commitment, we also assisted in building rondavel at Sir Seretse Khama Memorial Junior Secondary School in Gaborone.

He encouraged Batswana to respect and show care to their elders as a way of enduring the journey of their cultural norm and beliefs.

Accepting the donations, Kgosi Michael Molefhe of Kopong commended Kgosi Puso and members of Ntlo ya Dikgosi for exemplary leadership in setting the spirit of promoting self-reliance and Setho.
