Clubs owed Mayor�s Cup dues

The four teams; Mochudi Centre Chiefs, Extension Gunners, Sharps Shooting Stars and TAFIC, participated in the one-day football event played at the National Stadium on July 22, 2017.
However a month later, the four teams are yet to receive their dues that include prize money and appearance fees.
“We have not received anything at the moment. We were informed that it is a process that might take a while. That was the last thing we heard from them (organisers). They have never given us an update since,” Gunners public relations officer, Edwin Mabapa said yesterday.
He further said there is confusion as to who should pay the teams between GCC and Spotkick. “It was not clear who is to pay us. As of now, we are waiting for their (organisers’) call,” he said. Mabapa said Gunners are owed P100,000, broken down as P50,000 appearance fees and another P50,000 after they failed to reach the finals.
“We are just disappointed there has since been lack of communication from the organisers. We are preparing for a new season and we agreed to take part in the tournament because we wanted to boost our coffers. As of now, it is unclear when or if we will receive the money,” an official at one of the teams said.
Sharps representative, Kabelo Moremong said the club has agreement with GCC and the payment is being processed. “As far as we are concerned, the payment is still being processed. We are not complaining about anything. We had an agreement with the council and the payment is still processed,” he said.
Mmegi Sport’s efforts to get a comment from GCC mayor Kagiso Thutlwe were futile at press time. His mobile number rang unanswered after several attempts. Sharps were crowned champions after downing Chiefs 2-0 thanks to a brace from former Chiefs marksman, Moemedi Moatlhaping. The two teams advanced to the finals after eliminating TAFIC and Gunners in the semifinal.
