Tswana Sanctified Voices� Musical Concert Brings Endless Entertainment

The event that will be held from Thursday 24 till 27 this month is said to be bringing the first Setswana musical titled Kgosikgolo that will tell the Setswana culture through music, dance, poetry and drama.
Speaking during the press briefing the crew’s marketing personnel, Letlhogonolo Magowe said Kgosikgolo was their first production. He said the crew infused choral and contemporary music together to come up with the best and a different music concept the country will ever see.
“We aim to sell Setswana culture in an understandable concept to the global world. That musical play is a celebration of Setswana culture with a special focus on the activities taking place around a paramount chief through song, dance and acting. It tells a story of a young prince who is about to succeed his father and all the preparations for his coronation. The musical celebrates activities that are proudly and uniquely Setswana like letsema, letsholo, dikgafela, lenyalo amongst others. It shows activities done in a community set up. We want to show the world a linage of authority in the Setswana culture,” he said.
Magowe said the talented Moemedi Rabolo who was part of Sedibeng Choral Society was the author of Kgosikgolo. He said the crew intends to sell the Setswana culture and also attract tourists to the country. He added that the initiative was 95% youth oriented.
He added that TSV was a choir of 30 young passionate singers, dancers, actresses and actors from different walks of life. He said the choir was formed last year by members of different youth groups and choirs from different churches such as Methodist, Roman Catholic, Anglican, Trinity and St John.
“All members of the choir have a strong musical background. They are self-taught artists who have had the experience of being on stage on great productions like Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Annie, Bye Bye Birdie. Some performed in some of the local productions such as Moratiwa to mention but a few,” he said.
Ralph Dennison directed the musical while Lucky Rramoloko directed the music production. The concert will start at 7pm till 9pm in the three days. Tickets are sold at P100 each.
