“There is no criminal or civil offence against me and the morafe’s petition to remove me does not have sound reasons that could form a basis to warrant my removal. I am the legitimate kgosi,” he said. Moroka said he will continue to lead the community of Lerala accordingly and will stand firm in discouraging the spirit of belittling traditional leaderships and fueling social injustices as some members of the community are doing. He explained that he is supposed to go and further his studies and that means somebody would have to act on his behalf.

He said procedurally, his deputy Ookeditse Shaw could hold the fort, but said he is implicated in some criminal activities, some of which are already under investigations.

“I need to leave my office with somebody that I trust and one that can preserve the dignity of bogosi and also unite the village,” he said. Kgosana Shaw is allegedly under investigations for processing a death certificate for somebody who is alive and illegal harvesting of a mine sand without permission from Department of Mines. Moroka said he consulted with his uncles on the rightful person to act on his behalf and they agreed on Theo Selebatso.

He added that when Bangwato Regent Sediegeng Kgamane came to Lerala last week to meet bogosi and be presented with the name of Selebatso, some dikgosana claimed the issue was new to them, hence Kgamane requested that they should resolve the issue and inform him, and also present minutes of their meeting. He said the issue is still at its infancy and the consultation is still between him and the uncles and has not yet reached a stage of public consultation.

“However before we knew it, politicians convened a meeting to address morafe before we concluded it as traditional leaders. Mapolotiki gaba tsene gope mo mererong ya segosi,” he said. He said he got surprised last week Thursday when he saw morafe thronging the kgotla while he had convened an indoor meeting with his uncles.

He added that politicians meddling in the village chieftainship have fuelled confusion amongst morafe because they are fed with wrong information about bogosi even on Facebook.

“Consultation on who should act on my behalf is still at an early stage and we are not happy to be attacked by politicians while dealing with issues of bogosi,” he added. Moroka said that another meeting was convened last Saturday at the Kgotla that was also used as a platform to insult bogosi and incite hatred of traditional leadership amongst the village youth.

“Politicians are seeking to divide the village, belittle me and to insult my uncles. It is regrettable that some village elders are being used in activities of social injustices,” he said.
