The event, scheduled to take place on November 9, will be a cultural exchange programme between Botswana and Indian artists.
“This will be a live musical production whereby Ekam and I will be performing some collaboration work we have been working on which is a fusion of Setswana and Indian elements. The music, dance and poetry will have all elements from these backgrounds,” Berry Heart said.
The two artists recently released a collaboration single dubbed Pyaar, which spoke of a love story between a Motswana woman and an Indian man. “Its important we have such a cultural exchange programme so we get to learn more about each other.
As an African I feel our culture is linear to the Indian culture. I have always had interest in having to work with Indian artists. We also have a number of Indians residing in the country, its important we incorporate them,” Berry Heart said.
Apart from the two artists on stage, there will also be Indian and Setswana dancers in their respective dance moves.
Manuuke recently came to the country for the cultural exchange programme where he staged a performance with Berry Heart during the recently held Botswana Music Union (BOMU) awards. “I just came in the country for this cultural event. I met up with Berry Heart in 2013 and we shared an idea to come up with such an initiative.
We are learning from each other and enjoying every moment. Music has no languages,” Manuuke said. The event will also have artists such as ATI, Fresh Les and EJ. After the event at Maitisong Theatre, Berry Heart and Manuuke will headline the Mayor’s poetry night at Adansonia Hotel on November 10.
Apart from being musicians, the two artists are also poets.
