Moloko, who was supporting the Ndaba Gaolathe team at the BMD violent congress in Bobonong, said he could not join the new party, the Alliance for Progressives (AP) because he believes in opposition cooperation.

“I do not have a problem with Gaolathe, and I respect him as a leader. My worry is that the issue of joining the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) by the new party is not fully addressed.

In 2014, our aim was very clear to Batswana that we will go to 2019 elections united and to deliver them from the ruling party, the Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

My electorate at the Diphetogo wanted me to give them a timeframe that the AP will join the UDC, but I had no answers and I had no choice, but to stick to what my voters want,” Moloko said.

He said he joined the BNF after he held 10 consultative meetings with his ward members and other people who are neutral voters. Moloko said he believes that the UDC could still change people’s life in politics.

“The UDC will be able to resolve the issue that it is facing now.

To be honest, we are the ones at BMD who failed to block Sidney Pilane from getting the party’s membership and the UDC inherited our problems.

We took long as the BMD to resolve our differences and shockingly we became impatient with the UDC when it wanted to resolve our differences.”

At Gaborone City Council (GCC), six councillors defected from the BMD to join the AP recently.

The six councillors are Sesupo Jacobs, Motlogelwa Moatlhodi, Tidimalo Thungthung, Marks Bobi, Latelang Pereko and Nkadimang Moses.

The BMD is left with three councillors in the city council, namely, Rhoda Sekgororoane, Daniel Mokgatla and Tsholofelo Amos. Mankie Sekete is alleged to be negotiating with other opposition parties.
