Mogomotsi, who is popularly known by the sobriquet DJ Missy, is the proud owner of a newly-established modelling agency trading as ‘Ghetto First Modelling Agency’ which is situated at Donga location.

Driven by passion, Mogomotsi funded the business from her own pocket.

She told Business Monitor that her main mandate is to create opportunities for models who want to earn a living through modelling as well as reviving the fashion industry in the second city.

“Due to the collapse of the mining industry, the fashion industry can alternatively be used as a vehicle to boost the city’s economy.”

The Makuta-born lady said that her modelling agency also offers aspiring models a platform to network and exchange ideas that can help develop the fashion industry in the country.

“One of the reasons the fashion industry is developing at a snail pace in the country is due to lack of commitment and poor management,” said the mother-of-two who fell in love with fashion at a tender age.

Mogomotsi who is also a DJ said that her venture is currently doing well because she is receiving gigs from different organisations across the country.

She highlighted that last month they held a successful winter show at Galo, which attracted multitudes of fashion enthusiasts.

Her models also paraded clothing lines of established shops such as Edgars.

Mogomotsi currently operates her business from home, but intends to move to a more suitable location once the business is well-established. She stated that she scouts her models through social media.

So far she has signed 30 models under her agency of which 20 are ladies. She also uses social media to market her business.

“I plan to host auditions to select more models. The auditions are likely to be held next month.”

Mogomotsi added that there are few competitors in Francistown, which is why her business is flourishing.

“I have loyal models who have massively contributed to the growth of the company. I do not exploit them like other agencies. I pay and treat them well,” she said.
