Brincat to host historical exhibition

The exhibition dubbed ‘The Promised Land’, tells the birth of Botswana in nativity style that is similar to the birth story of Jesus in the second testament. The exhibition has 13 pieces of photography. “The photography collection has been conceptualised in a way which tell the birth of the country similar to Jesus’ birth, for instance we have the three wise men that are represented by the three chiefs. We also have Joseph and Merry being represented by Ruth and Seretse,” said the photographer and director of The Promised Land.   In simple terms he took the Botswana story and conceptualised it to look similar to the Bible story through a photography exhibition.

Through this project he stated that this was a way of celebrating Botswana, as he was inspired by a number of people that painted rocks and trees with Botswana colours last year when the country was celebrating 50 years of independence.

“I just wanted to take it further and show how the country came to be, it’s my way of celebrating the birth of Botswana.” Brincat stated that he had to work with a number of artists, especially actors who acted as the different figures that played a role during the liberation of Botswana.

Some notable faces that worked with Brincat on this project are renowned performers Tefo Paya and Moratiwa Molema.  This will be the creative’s third photography exhibition. He recently released a book titled Diamonds Alive, which is a collection of 120 portraits of people that have played different roles in the country.
