Mpho Nakedi to walk 453km for road safety

The walk commences from Francistown and ends in Metsimotlhabe village, on the outskirts of Gaborone.

The 453 kilometres walk will take 11 days and will coincide with the road safety day commemorations billed for Metsimotlhabe on November 19.

The initial route of the walk was planned to start in Francistown through Maun, Gantsi to Gaborone and back to Francistown. The route was changed due to time constraints.

Nakedi said the change of the route was influenced by his collaboration with the Department of Road, Transport and Safety (DRTS) and MVA Fund.

“According to my partners and available statistics the A1 highway is accident-prone.

“We therefore, reached an agreement that we must put a lot of emphasis on the A1 road which continues to claim more lives.

“We also want to meet the Road Safety Day commemorations on the (November) 19th and the initial route would need more time.”

The gospel muso urged all churches in the villages along the A1 road to join the prayers at their respective areas.

He said the walk would be live on different social media platforms and in some radio stations to ensure the nation is up to date on his every move.

“We will be live all the way, we have agreements with two radio stations already and we are still trying to engage more.

“I call upon all men of God in villages along the A1 and all congregations of God to join us in prayer against these road mishaps.”

Nakedi said support from individuals has been overwhelming. He said MVA ambassadors have pledged to join the walk in some areas.

“People are calling, they have waited in anticipation for this walk. Its very encouraging and I am fired up to start.”

He said over and above the walk he has recorded a song that he has dedicated to promoting road safety awareness.

The new song, Do’s And Don’ts was aired on Duma FM and Gabz FM two weeks ago. He said the song is available for free on the Internet.

Nakedi said he could not get sponsors for the walk save for the two partners, MVA Fund and DRTS that he is helping to dispatch road safety messages.

“This is a calling from God and I have decided I will carry on without sponsors, God will provide along the way. I encourage motorists to take road safety seriously, we know our roads, we know the dangers and we can avoid them if we adhere to positive behaviours,” he said.
