Shakawe/Mohembo West is under the Botswana Congress Party (BCP) and highly placed insiders say the Zwakapresser hit-maker plans to use his popularity to snatch the ward for the ruling party. “So far he is the only one who has shown interest in the ward, and he is busy making his presence felt,” insiders in the area said.

Contacted for comment, Chris Manto 7 declined to confirm nor deny his interest in the ward, saying that would be against the BDP policies. Manto 7’s interest in politics dates back to the 2014 general elections when he was earmarked to represent the BDP at parliament level in Okavango. He ultimately did not contest, with the ruling party putting forward Mbaha Kambimba who lost to Bagalatia Arone, then of the BCP.

Mwanchisenge told Mmegi that he pulled out in 2014 to concentrate on building his business in Maun and family interests. Manto 7 is a proprietor of the popular Kontina Bar and Bottle Store in Maun and also works for Kgalagadi Breweries as a promoter.

“I eventually resolved to support Kambimba in 2014 given his long service to BDP in the constituency,” he said. Manto 7 rose to fame with the Rhumba hit Zwakapresser in 2005 and has in the past publicly expressed his adoration for President Ian Khama.
